Fools Gold Dead Island 2 Quest Walkthrough And Rewards

Navigating the sun-soaked, zombie-infested beaches of Santa Monica in Dead Island 2 offers plenty of secrets, but few Lost & Found quests are as rewarding as Fool's Gold. This optional mission tasks players with following a paper trail left behind by two unorganized survivors attempting to hide high-tier loot. By solving their clues across the pier, you can open a locked safe containing top-tier gear.

Starting the Quest at Lifeguard HQ

To initiate the quest, travel to the Lifeguard HQ on Santa Monica pier after completing the main story mission Boardwalking Dead. Head near the garage area outside the safe zone to locate a unique Crusher zombie named Dante. Defeating Dante causes him to drop a note called A Totally Legit Letter, which begins the scavenger hunt.

The note directs you to check Randy's locker, which is located inside the Lifeguard HQ building near the gym equipment. Interacting with the locker rewards you with another journal entry, revealing that the safe is half-buried nearby but requires two distinct code halves scattered around the pier.

Tracing the Clues Across Santa Monica Pier

The first code location requires traveling to the end of the pier near the Ferris wheel. Head behind the striped ice cream stand to find a burner phone resting on a wooden bench. Collecting this item gives you the first half of the safe combination.

For the second code, make your way back toward the northern alleyway near the storefronts and restaurants. Search the narrow path near the Merry-Go-Round Cafe to locate Dante's burner phone sitting next to a trash bin. Picking up the phone reveals the remaining digits, but be prepared to defend yourself against a wave of spawning undead.

Unlocking the Buried Safe and Claiming Rewards

With both parts of the combination secured, return to the Lifeguard HQ building to locate the buried safe. Walk around the exterior wall on the sand until you spot the safe protruding from the ground. Before you can open it, you must clear out a large horde of zombies that immediately ambushes the area.

Once all enemies are eliminated, interact with the safe to claim your loot. Your effort will be rewarded with 2,000 XP, the Superior Melee Liquidator Mod, and the Blood Rage legendary dagger, which excels at dealing critical bleed damage to zombie targets.
